Maturing Your Faith: Our Discipleship Pathway
At Trinity EC Church, we understand our discipleship pathway through five spiritual essentials: Abide, Rooted, Serve, Go and Connect. These are not stages to move on from, or a checklist to complete, but rather each space is to be continually lived out and matured.
The life of a disciple is not linear—it is a continual path to maturity. We are always being drawn deeper into the body, deeper into Christ, deeper into His Word, and sent again into the world on mission. Naturally there will be seasons when one of these areas may need work. Or we may be strong in two or three of these spiritual disciplines. However, all these areas need to be tended to for a disciple of Christ to flourish.
Wherever you find yourself today, we desire to walk alongside you—trusting that the Spirit is faithfully at work—guiding you to abide in Christ, to be rooted in truth, to serve with humility, to go with gospel purpose and to connect to the body of Christ. This pathway is not a program to complete, but a life to be transformed by the work of The Spirit and the steady presence of Jesus.
ABIDE — Spiritual Formation
Jesus does not call us to perform for Him, but to remain in Him. Abiding is the quiet, daily returning of the heart to Christ—where we are shaped, tested, and slowly transformed to be more like Christ. This is where we do the daily spiritual work of walking with The Lord.
Practices:
Start a daily habit: 10 minutes of Bible reading and prayer each morning
Establish a prayer routine (morning, or evening)
Practice listening to God in stillness
Keep a journal of prayers and reflections
Next Steps:
Identify one area of growth for this year (prayer, worship, Scripture, etc.)
Ask someone to pray with you regularly
Practice Daily Disciplines of Gratitude, Mercy and Love. Ask God to give you opportunities in which to practice these areas.
ROOTED — Go Deeper into God’s Word
A disciple must be grounded in truth. God’s Word anchors us, corrects us, and nourishes us. To be rooted is to allow Scripture to shape not just what we know, but who we become.
Practices:
Follow a Bible reading or listening plan.
Study Scripture more deeply through sermon notes or individual study.
Engage with theological resources to grow in understanding
Practice family discipleship through shared Scripture time
Next Steps:
Take a Bible study or theology class (online or in person)
Use resources like The Bible Project for deeper understanding
Begin a weekly family devotion time
Read through one book of the Bible with intentional study
SERVE — Use Your Gifts & Talents
God has uniquely gifted every believer for the building up of His church. To serve is not simply to fill a role—it is to participate in the life of Christ through faith in action. Together we can accomplish God’s mission as each individual does their part; using their gifts and talents to help, build up and grow together as believers.
Practices:
Discover and use your spiritual gifts
Serve consistently in a ministry within the church
Look for practical ways to meet the needs around you
Serve with humility, faithfulness, and joy
Next Steps:
Volunteer for a ministry team in the church
Serve at a church outreach event (cookout, fundraiser, etc.)
Ask a leader where your gifts could best be used
GO — Live on Mission
Every disciple is sent. The Christian life does not end in personal growth—it moves outward in love. To go is to carry the hope of Christ into everyday life, trusting that God will use ordinary faithfulness for eternal impact.
Practices:
Share your testimony with others
Engage in gospel conversations
Invest in the spiritual lives of others.
Support or participate in missions locally and globally
Next Steps:
Invite a neighbor or coworker to church or a church event
Pray regularly for someone who doesn’t know Jesus
Serve in children’s ministry or outreach opportunities
Look for one intentional opportunity each week to share Christ
CONNECT — Belong to the Body
We were never meant to follow Jesus alone. God forms His people in community—through shared worship, intentional relationships, and lives lived together with Christ at the center.
Practices:
Commit to weekly worship—be present, not just attending but engaging
Join a small group or Bible study
Invite someone from church into your home or share a meal
Build intentional spiritual friendships
Next Steps:
Introduce yourself to someone new this Sunday
Join a group, class, or ministry team
Reach out to one person this week for encouragement or prayer
Final Word
You don’t need to do everything at once. Start where you are. Take one step. The goal is not perfection, but faithfulness. As you practice each of these spiritual areas you will find your discipleship mature and deepen over time. May you continue to abide in Christ, be rooted in truth, serve with love, go with a missionary zeal, and connect to others as you live out your calling, identity and purpose as disciples of Jesus Christ.
